The founder’s energy was amazing and he had a go-to-solve attitude for problems. He found a problem and tried to give a solution to reduce unnecessary rehospitalizations. Today’s story is about one of our 2022 alumni: ValueMD.
The Team behind the startup
Hi, we are Nick and Sorin and we want to make an impact in the field of medicine by providing an analytics platform that reduces unnecessary rehospitalizations.
Sorin has a long-standing career in the IT field, where he has developed software for the financial services industry. In addition to software engineering, he is passionate about AI/ML and focuses on the medical domain, particularly AI/ML applications for the healthcare, pharmaceutical, and insurance sectors. He enjoys writing code that solves tasks that were previously done only by humans. He is the CEO of ValueMD.
Nick has 15+ years of experience in Web Development. His clients include FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 companies, the UK Government, the State of Jersey Government, the art and fitness industry, and e-commerce companies. For ValueMD, he is the CTO and tech advisor of the team.
The “why” behind this project
Sorin experienced a difficult time in his life when his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. As they waited for the biopsy results, a critical time when his mother could develop metastases, Sorin realized the importance of the technology that hospitals can use for the prevention and treatment of diseases. He began to consider how he could use his programming skills to make an impact on prevention in medicine. Sorin’s motivation was shared with Nick and medical and machine learning advisors, and they started to build the ValueMD analytics platform to prevent unnecessary rehospitalizations.
Good match with the StepFWD program?
The experience is amazing. We got so much advice, connections, and useful information that we need more time to digest them. Regarding the team, we received help in finding a healthcare collaborator. Regarding personal development, when Sorin asked how much time has to invest in building a startup, he received this quote “The three most harmful addictions are heroin, carbohydrates, and a monthly salary.” StepFWD can help you on a theoretical (inspirational) level but also on a practical level.
One piece of advice before joining a pre-accelerator
If you are at the idea stage, please build a team and conduct at least 10-15 interviews with your clients to be sure that you have the basis to get information from the pre-accelerator program. Please reserve sufficient time to deal with the new knowledge.
